The Belles - Locust Point, MD

Who are The Belles? The Belles are a non-profit ladies organization open to women of any faith. The Belles were established in 1991. Our membership ranges in age from 21 years to 70+. We meet at 7 PM on the first Friday of every month. We do not meet in June, July & August. The meetings usually last about one hour, with light refreshments and socializing after. Members are required to attend a minimum of (3) meetings a year. Our membership is limited to (75) women. We are currently at capacity. There is a waitlist established for those looking to join.

What have The Belles done? The Belles have raised and donated over $200,000 in the last 30+ years to various charities including local churches, local schools, local athletic leagues, the Baltimore Station, The South Baltimore Network, BARCS, SALT, Little Sisters of the Poor, House of Ruth, and many needy families, just to name a few.

How do The Belles do it? With fundraisers, such as dances, karaoke nights, bingos, bake sales, and raffles, we are able to help many in need. We are open to any idea that a member and her committee are willing to chair! Members are required to chair and/or volunteer at (1) fundraiser or social event per year.

The Belles have fun! Although our primary goal is to help others, we do not confine our activities to fundraisers alone. We also have social activities for membership that include bus trips, pot-luck dinners, holiday parties, paint nights, and more.

Is there a membership fee? No! However, because we are non-profit, we collect dues. Dues are $40 per calendar year plus a refreshment fee of $5 per attended meeting only.

The Belles in the Community

Belles at BARCS

On September 25th, The Belles spent the afternoon volunteering at BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter). We learned about the very impressive BARCS facility and how it operates. We were also able to take turns walking dogs throughout the property. The Belles were able to make a monetary donation to BARCS. Our members also donated items requested by BARCS, such as blankets, towels, food, and other animal necessities.

Belles at SOBO Strength and Performance

On November 16th, The Belles were invited to participate in a self-defense training class at SOBO Strength and Performance. The class was led by Coach Sal and Amanda. We learned how to defend ourselves in different ways, based on the assault situation. It was a very powerful morning, and The Belles benefited from all the training. The Belles were able to make a monetary donation through SOBO Strength and Performance to The House of Ruth. Our members also donated items requested by The House of Ruth such as food, toiletries, bedding and other necessities.

Belles at The Party with the Poor

On November 19th, The Belles gathered to assemble bags of necessities for The Party with the Poor. The bags included toiletries, winter gear, water, and snacks.

On December 14th, The Belles volunteered at The Party with the Poor, organized by The Little Sisters of the Poor. This was a great event to help out Baltimore's less fortunate. They were offered food, drinks, a clothing and blanket distribution, a nail/make-up station, and sing-a-longs throughout the day with the band. The Belles distributed bags of essentials as gifts with a little help from Santa himself. A great time was had by all!
